Nigeria’s inflation rate has increased for the third consecutive month. With a 0.25% rise, it moved from 11.85% in October to 11.85% in November 2019 according to the National Bureau of Statistics. “The urban inflation rate increased by 12.47 percent (year-on-year) in November 2019 from 12.20 percent recorded in October 2019, while the rural inflation rate increased by 11.30 percent in November 2019 from 11.07 percent in October 2019,” the report reads. Eleven Tunisians were arrested at the birthplace of the Arab Spring due to renewed protests. This is similar to the 2010 uprising because like the first time the demonstrations started after self immolation of a young man that triggered outrage in the central region of Sidi Bouzid Angry residents blocked roads and attacked police on Saturday and Sunday nights, according to interior ministry spokesman Khaled Hayouni . Hayouni adds that youths aged between 11 and 18 attacked law enforcement officers during the night, throwing stones at them and wounding 20 officers. Security forces dispersed the youths with tear gas. Elsewhere in the region, several hundred people burned tyres and blocked roads. The African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a $210 million loan to help Nigeria upgrade its electricity transmission and distribution network. AfDB Source: EnvironmentNews According to the bank, the loan to Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) will support construction of 330KV double circuit quad transmission lines and sub-stations across the country. The AfDB funded project will run across seven states and will improve the capacity of power grid where it is most constrained.   Nigeria privatised most of its power sector in 2013 but retained control of its monopoly grid, operated by TCN. Most of the country’s power generation is from thermal power stations that use gas. The power grid has often been blamed for hobbling growth in west Africa’s largest economy.
