“This agreement is more than a contract it’s a catalyst,” Banigbe said. “Huawei has been a trusted partner throughout our journey, and this next chapter reaffirms our shared commitment to innovation, reliability, and excellence. With Huawei by our side, we’re not just upgrading our network, we’re future-proofing it.”

Banigbe emphasised that the partnership would enable T2 to deliver a stronger and more reliable telecoms service to its customers while also positioning the company to support Nigeria’s expanding digital economy.

Huawei Reaffirms Long-Term Commitment to Nigeria

Echoing Banigbe’s remarks, Huawei’s Jiang Junyong praised the collaboration as a bold step that would set new benchmarks for the telecoms industry in Nigeria.

“This partnership reflects our shared commitment to innovation and excellence,” Junyong stated. “We’re bringing world-class solutions to help T2 build a resilient, high-performance core network that will support next-generation services and long-term growth. Our goal is to ensure that Nigerian consumers and businesses enjoy the benefits of cutting-edge technology, delivered with reliability and scalability.”

Huawei, with decades of experience in ICT infrastructure, has been a key partner for telecoms operators worldwide. The company’s solutions are widely recognised for helping operators modernise their systems to meet growing consumer demand for data, voice, and digital services.

Driving Nigeria’s Digital Transformation

Nigeria’s telecoms industry remains the backbone of its digital economy, contributing significantly to GDP and enabling innovation across sectors. With mobile and internet penetration growing rapidly, operators are under pressure to expand capacity, improve reliability, and prepare for emerging technologies such as 5G, cloud computing, and the Internet of Things (IoT).

For T2, the partnership with Huawei represents an opportunity to leapfrog infrastructure challenges and deliver cutting-edge services that meet both present and future needs. By modernising its core network, T2 will be better equipped to handle surging data demand, ensure security, and provide the foundation for advanced digital services.

A Future-Proofed Network

Industry analysts note that a robust and modernised core network is essential for telecoms operators aiming to remain competitive in a fast-changing market. Such an upgrade not only enhances the quality of voice and data services but also creates opportunities for innovation in areas like fintech, e-commerce, healthtech, and digital media.

With this partnership, T2 is signaling its readiness to play a central role in powering Nigeria’s digital transformation. The company is positioning itself as not just a telecoms provider, but also a platform for innovation and economic growth.

Building Trust Through Partnership

T2’s collaboration with Huawei is built on years of partnership and mutual trust. Huawei’s global experience and local expertise make it a strategic ally for Nigerian telecoms operators navigating complex infrastructure and regulatory landscapes.

For Huawei, the partnership underscores its long-term commitment to Nigeria and Africa at large. The company has consistently invested in local talent, capacity building, and digital skills training to strengthen the continent’s ICT ecosystem.

Looking Ahead

The signing ceremony in Lagos marks the beginning of what both parties describe as a bold new chapter. As the project unfolds, Nigerian consumers can expect improved network reliability, faster data speeds, and access to next-generation digital services.

For the broader economy, the partnership promises to accelerate Nigeria’s digital transformation, foster innovation, and create new opportunities for businesses. With T2 and Huawei working side by side, Nigeria’s telecoms landscape is poised for a new era of growth and resilience.

As Banigbe summed it up: “We’re building a network for the future — one that will empower our customers, strengthen our economy, and keep Nigeria at the forefront of digital innovation in Africa.”
