Tunisia arrests 11 after clashes in birthplace of Arab Spring

Eleven Tunisians were arrested at the birthplace of the Arab Spring due to renewed protests. This is similar to the 2010 uprising because like the first time the demonstrations started after self immolation of a young man that triggered outrage in the central region of Sidi Bouzid Angry residents blocked roads and attacked police on Saturday and Sunday nights, according to interior ministry spokesman Khaled Hayouni . Hayouni adds that youths aged between 11 and 18 attacked law enforcement officers during the night, throwing stones at them and wounding 20 officers. Security forces dispersed the youths with tear gas. Elsewhere in the region, several hundred people burned tyres and blocked roads. On Tuesday, the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights expressed "deep concern at the state of social tension in Jelma". Tunisia Keeps Inflation at 7.75%

The Central Bank of Tunisia has maintained it’s interest rate at 7.75 percent. Central Bank of Tunisia The bank raised the rate to this level from 6.75 percent in February to combat high inflation. Meanwhile, the annual inflation eased to 6.5 percent in July from 6.8 percent in June. Tunisia’s economy has been in fluctuating since the toppling of long term ruler Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali in 2011 in the Arab Spring. Unemployment and inflation shot up and the country has struggled with tough economic reforms to reduce public spending.
