Lagos High Court Adjourns Oando Vs SEC to July 22

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has adjourned a case brought by local oil firm Oando to stop Nigeria’s financial watchdog, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) from replacing its Chief Executive and making other management changes to July 22, 2019.

The SEC’s action followed an investigation in which it allegedly found evidence of financial infractions by the company.
This month a court blocked the SEC from replacing Oando’s Chief Executive and taking other action against the oil firm, pending further hearings on the case.
Oando has dismissed the SEC charges as unsubstantiated and called for the SEC to release the full audit on which it is basing its charges.
The Lagos Bourse-listed Oando, which also has a dual listing in Johannesburg, has evolved from a fuel retailer into a major indigenous oil producer that competes with multinationals such as Royal Dutch Shell and Exxon Mobil in Nigeria.

Cap Mining Royalties at 7.5% - Zambia Chamber of Mines

Zambia’s Chamber of Mines has advised that mineral royalties should be capped at 7.5 percent in the 2020 budget. It argued that the 2019 mining tax regime had raised the tax burden on mines to unsustainable and noncompetitive levels. Africa’s No.2 copper producer increased its sliding scale for royalties of four to six percent by 1.5 percentage points and introduced a new ten percent tax when the price of copper exceeded 7,500 dollars per tonne. The scale is adjusted so that royalties are paid at higher levels as commodity prices climb and are reduced as prices fall.
