Emder Zeitung Reacts to Kiel University's Full-Face ban

The German daily, Emder Zeitung, on Thursday, commented on Kiel University ban on full-face covering during lectures, saying “certainly, freedom of religion must be given high priority.”

He stated that “wherever it is curbed, it is necessary to determine whether this step is necessary.
“Many women wear headscarves on their own volition and should be allowed to continue to do so, as it does not affect
communication.”

The daily, however, added that “the situation is different in the case of the burqa and the niqab.”
It claimed that some Muslims consider those with burqa and niqab as symbols of oppression. It added that a general ban on face covering had gone too far, as there may be individual women who may want to use the burqa or niqab for their own reasons.
